The Presider’s Chair

The presider’s chair occupies a prominent place in the sanctuary to express the priest’s office of presiding over the assembly and of directing prayer,” – CCC n. 1184. It bears the coat-of-arms of the Shrine in which can be found symbols from the coat-of-arms of Cebu – the Cross – and from the coat-of-arms of the Archdiocesese of Agaña – the Star.

The Golden Cross represents Christ and His Passion; the Golden Star with eight points represents the Virgin Mary, Queen of Martyrs and the Golden Palm Branch, represents the victorious teenage martyr, San Pedro. These symbols are arranged hierarchically on a Blood-Red Field symbolizing martyrdom.
